An Open Letter this BHM
Another February is upon us and the year feels like it is speeding by on cruise control. I have so many thoughts coming out of 2021 (a review + summary of hopes for this year still to come). As black history month kicks off I’m conflicted as to what is most helpful for me to share…
For those that have been here from the early days you may recall my thoughts & shared experiences on being a black in America. In prior years, I’ve sought to educate about black excellence as well as highlight the importance of each person choosing to create space for + uplift black voices.
This year I find myself questioning… are people still listening? Do they care though the topics of celebrating black culture, representation and racial justice are not trending like they did a couple years ago? At times it can feel like I’m screaming at the top of my lungs yet no one can hear me. Maybe no one wants to listen. I am fatigued. Sometimes I’m even discouraged. Injustices against black women are still being pushed fo the side. When will society finally be as fed up and pressed for change as I do?
So this year I think all I have / want to say is to my beautiful, talented & worth black sisters…
You are deserving of peace. You deserve to be honored, celebrated, protected and loved. It is okay to be tired; don’t carry your burdens alone. Share your story & life your voice, but know that you don’t have to do it all. Little by little we will see miracles happen. Of that I am hopeful and expectant ♥️
